On Tuesday, April 30th, current students, recent graduates, and professionals alike will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of experienced professionals on how to address the challenges in transitioning from one career stage to the next with an opportunity to ask their own questions.

Speakers

This event will feature speakers offering advice and insight into transitioning through your first five years in Public Relations at three crucial junctures:

1. Getting the job

During this section attendees will learn:
How do you position and present your skills on paper and in person?
Speaker: Ken Anderson, Vice-President at Delta Media Inc.

 

2. Keeping and excelling at the job as a newcomer

During this section attendees will learn:
Tips and insights on bridging your academics into the real world and working on a learning plan with your employer one to three years into your career.
Overview of the Public Relations Knowledge (PRK)™ Exam
Speaker: Tracey L. Baker, Director, Education, CPRS National

3. Job advancement and continuous learning

During this section attendees will learn:
When is it time to switch up your career path and how do you advance yourself?
Overview of the APR program – Canada’s only public relations accreditation program
Speaker: Charlene Gaudet, APR, FCPRS, Accreditation Chair, CPRS Ottawa-Gatineau and Director, Communications, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency

  1. Even though I purchased my ticket right before this contest came out, here’s my answer… I want to attend, especially the job advancement conference because I’ve been working for 2 years. With 6 years of university behind, I’m looking to discuss the importance of education when advancing in our careers (better to have lots? If you do, do you push it? or stay away from the subject?) and more importantly, how to effectively climb the ladder while avoiding the “you’re too young” card.
