Deaf-blind speed-skater to compete in Halifax games
A deaf-blind speed-skater, Kevin Frost, is ready to brave a new city and compete in the Canadian Masters Championships and Halifax 2011 Canada Games from Jan. 15 to 16, 2011.
“I am very excited to compete in the Halifax 2011 Canada Games,” says Frost. “It will be the first time I compete in Halifax.”
The 2011 Games will be the largest multi-sport event in Nova Scotia’s history and Halifax’s first Canada Winter Games. Canada’s best and brightest will come to compete in over 20 sports.
“Although this competition is prestigious, it is not why I am here,” says Frost. “I am here to raise awareness about deaf-blind speed-skating. My goal is to have speed-skating included in the Russia 2014 Paralympics Games.”
The Halifax 2011 Canada Games marks Frost’s second competition of 2011. The first was in Lake Placid, New York where Frost won a gold medal.
Frost is always ambitious and hopes to bring home yet another gold medal.
About Kevin Frost
Kevin Frost has Type 2 Usher Syndrome, a genetic condition that has left him with 90 per cent hearing loss and only 5 per cent of his field vision. This challenge has not stopped him from breaking records in short- and long-track speed skating. Kevin is currently ranked 19th in the world among able-bodied athletes. His mission is to see speed skating included in the Paralympic Games.
