Happy 25th Birthday .CA

Some pretty amazing things happened in 1987:

  • I was born – my existence is pretty epic!
  • British Airways is privatised and listed on the London Stock Exchange
  • Michael Eisner, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and French Prime Minister, Jacques Chirac, sign the agreement to construct the 4,800 acres Euro Disney Resort (now called Disneyland Paris)
  • Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the Provincial Premiers agree on principle to the Meech Lake Accord which would bring Quebec into the constitution.
  • Michael Jackson releases his hit album Bad

The registry was managed by a group of volunteers at the University of British Columbia. The .CA domain in its infancy was primarily used by government and academic communities. By the year 2000, the 100,000 .CA domain names would be registered.

Today there are over 2 million .CA domain names registered. That is 2 million companies that want to be recognized as being Canadian.

Do you have a .CA domain? Why or why not? And, what does your .CA mean to you?
